IELTS LIFE SKILLS

IELTS Life Skills (first offered in April 2015) is an English Language test offered by the three IELTS Partners (The British Council, IDP: IELTS Australia and Cambridge English Language Assessment). It is generally required for the visa of a spouse or the family members of a settled person. Over the time it has gone through few changes by UK Visas and Immigration and at present has the following test format:-

IELTS Life Skills is available at Three CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Languages) Levels A1, A2, and B1

  • IELTS Life Skills Level – A1:  Speaking and Listening (16 – 18 minutes duration)
  • IELTS Life Skills Level – A2:  Speaking and Listening (Max 20 minutes duration & offered in the UK only for family route migrants seeking to extend their stay in the UK after two and a half years already being in the UK )
  • IELTS Life Skills Level – B1:  Speaking and Listening (16 – 18 minutes duration)

There is no break between speaking and listening components as you are assessed on both skills at the same time.

There are few restrictions for IELTS LIFE SKILLS which should be taken into consideration by the text taker these include:-

  • If you pass the test, you can not retake the test at the same level for the period of two years however there is no restriction on retaking the test, if you do not pass it.
  • you need to take this test only in the location specified by UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI).
